Queer PHOTO: Black and Blur

Artist: Lilah Benetti

Premiere and Artist Talk Date: 10 February 2024, 1pm—2pm

Exhibition Date: 27 January—24 May 2024

What if Black Queerness could be more than embodied?

Through this series featuring portraits of migrant and Indigenous Black individuals and rooted in the unique context of what is commonly referred to as Australia, Lilah Benetti’s work recognises that Blackness is far from a monolithic identity; rather, a mosaic of cultural, ethnic, and global Indigenous backgrounds, shaped and coloured by the unique contexts from which we emerge.

Artworks are located across the Riverside Lawn, Myrtle Café, Lawn River & Pier and Weaving Sustainable Futures garden.

This exhibition is part of Queer PHOTO, a site-wide activation comprising large-scale outdoor works, indoor gallery exhibitions, and an interactive public program by local and international artists as part of Midsumma Festival.
