Takayna / Tarkine CountryTasmania
The spectacular takayna/Tarkine wilderness is a vast mosaic of ancient forests, wild beaches, heathlands and rivers covering more than 495,000 hectares in northwest Tasmania. But it’s under threat, and the Bob Brown Foundation is leading the campaign to protect it. Because in this climate emergency, protecting these large, intact ecosystems for their carbon stores, biodiversity, wilderness values and Aboriginal heritage is critical.
The Bob Brown Foundation’s national campaign has enabled hundreds of citizens to take peaceful, direct action in takayna at our Rainforest Rescue Camps. People power has kept the logging out of these magnificent forests, but they’re still in danger and we need to raise half a million dollars to run our peaceful rainforest defender camps, pay legal fees and continue awareness campaigns.
On this incredible four-day adventure, you’ll hike takayna. Along the way, you’ll walk beneath ancient rainforest canopies, climb Mount Farrell, marvel at Montezuma Falls and travel by boat down the Pieman River. Most importantly, you’ll be raising much-needed funds for the Bob Brown Foundation so it can continue its fight to save this incredible part of Australia’s natural heritage. You’ll have the special experience of meeting Bob Brown at his spectacular home at the foot of the Great Western Tiers and join him for a billy tea.
